Top 101: Beijing

Beijing is one of the biggest cities in China. with a 3500 years History and 20 million people here. Covering around 17,000 square kilometers in area, and it is the political and cultural center of the People's Republic of China.This city is also the destination of different international flights arriving in China.

Beijing became one of the most splendid cities of the world not only because of its amazing historical heritages such as Great Wall , Forbidden City , Temple of heaven . Summer Palace and skyscrapers , but also for its significant building projects of Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, such as the "bird's Nest" and "Water Cube", the largest 2 national stadiums of the world now, and it would be used again for 2022 Beijing winter Olympic games 6 years later, which made Beijing as the world new focus of Century by its wonderful culture.

 

2: Shanghai

Originally speaking, Shanghai was a very small fishing village several hundreds years ago during ancient time. Today, Shanghai became the center of popular and modern culture for China.

Shanghai is the largest city in China and "a city with lots of modernized skyscrapers". With a history of more than 800 years, Shanghai was the financial center of China since 100 years ago, Shanghai is the largest economic and transportation center in China even today. The municipal government is working towards building Shanghai into a modern metropolis and into a world economic, financial, trading and shipping center.

This modern city with its amazing heritage of ancient Chinese culture has much to see and do, such as The Oriental Pearl TV Tower . Shanghai Nanjing Road. Yuyuan Garden. Shanghai Museum . the Bund. The Jade Buddha Temple and Zhujiajiao and Qibao Ancient Town.

3:Xi'an

Xi’an is located in the central area of China and the city was served as the first capital of a unified ancient China since 2000 years ago, furthermore, Xi’an was called city of Chang’an during ancient time. xi'an was also known as one of “four ancient capitals”with Cairo, Rome and Athens in the world. And the impressive “Chinese Silk Road” that linked ancient China with central Asia and ancient Europe starting from xi'an originally.

There are lots of attracting highlights such as terracotta warriors and horses , which was even regarded as “the Eighth Wonder in the World”; the “stone bookstore of ancient China” - xi'an Forest of Stone tablets; another thousand year old Buddhism tower - the small Wild Goose Pagoda and the largest and best preserved city wall - Xi’an ancient City Wall from Ming dynasty.

4: Chengdu

Chengdu is the capital of Sichuan province in Southwest part of China,which is also the major city in Western China.The history of Chengdu can be traced back around 2300 years ago when the first emperor built his capital here and named the city, and the city is also known as the "Country of Heaven for China".

There are several historical and cultural sites like Emei Mountain, which is one of the Four impressive Buddhist Mountains of China; which got profound Buddhist culture , natural beauty in surrounding areas such as Jiuzhaigou Scenic Area and Huang Long Valley . The natural habitat of giant pandas base, Chengdu Panda Breeding and Research Center , supports world's only panda breeding and research base and Wuhou Temple in Chengdu.

5:Guilin

Guilin was built in the Qin Dynasty in 220 BC as a small settlement on the Li River, which is also known as important cultural city during ancient time. Gulin with a population of around 460.000, which is well known both at home and abroad for its unique and beautiful landscape.

Today, Guilin is a well-developed tourist city with convenient transportation and accommodation facilities. You can enter Guilin by air, by train or by bus and get around on free buses. The Elephant Trunk Hill is the symbol of the city just like huge elephant sipping water from the Li River with trunk. The Reed-Flute Cave, named after the reeds growing at cave entrance area. There is also group boat trip from Guilin along the Li River shows one of the most famous excursions to Yangshuo on your China tour.

6: Yangshuo

Yangshuo is located at about 70km south and over 1.5 hour south of Guilin, with its unique natural scenery and laid back air, it is a great escape from the busy and pollution of Chinese big cities such as Beijing and Shanghai, and it is probably the most common addition to those classic destinations. Yangshuo is a very relaxing place to experience typical small villages in the countryside where explore real China.This little town only got around of some 330,000 inhabitants, included various ethnic groups such as the Zhuang, Yao, Miao and Han.

The county borders the Li River on one side, and is located on a small plain between numbers of karst peaks,The major travel highlights in Yangshuo include West Street , Moon Hill, Ancient Banyan Tree, Yulong River , Fuli town and Xingping.

7: Lhasa

The Lhasa is the heart of cultural Tibet, which is one of the most featured cities in the world, it is not only because of its remoteness, its high altitude at 3,680 meters means limited accessibility, but also amazing heritage of over a thousand years of cultural and history that has helped to create the mysterious Tibetan religion since ancient China. Lhasa is a definitely a unique and the political, cultural, transport and tourist center of the Region.

The Potala Palace is located at the city of Lhasa from its site atop Red Mountain. It served as the residence place of t Dalai Lamas,and the magnificent Jokhang Temple, founded more than around 1,400 years ago, is situated in the center of Lhasa.

8: Hangzhou

Hangzhou is located at Southeast coast of China,which is the capital of Zhejiang Province and used as the center of economy, science, education, and culture of the province, and it covers an area of 440 square kilometers, inhabited by 3 million people. Hangzhou is a also renowned as “Paradise on Earth”, “Cultural State”, “Home of Silk” and “Town of Fish and Rice”.

As one of China's biggest tourist attractions, Hangzhou has lots of historical sites and spots, composing of West Lake, and the scenic area near the Fuchun River and the Xinan River. The special local-made products are silk, Xihu silk umbrellas, Meijiawu tea village and white chrysanthemum.

9: Suzhou

Suzhou is located in the central part of Yangtze River Delta. which is considered as beautiful as the paradise. A major tourist city, it presents classic gardens and elegant scenery. It is one of the first cities recognized as China’s famous cities with historical and cultural signification, Suzhou has been called the 'land of milk and honey of China' since ancient times.

The Classical Gardens of Suzhou are a group of gardens in Suzhou region including Lingering Garden and Humble Administrator's Garden etc , which is best known for its landscaped beautiful gardens, Suzhou’s gardens are not known for their size, but their delicate and unique designs, containing hills and ponds, terraces and towers.

10:Datong

Datong is located in northern Shanxi Province, which is bordered by Inner Mongolia to the North and Hebei Province to the east, and it is a small city with little experience with foreigners. Covering an area about of 15,176 square kilometers , it has four districts and seven counties under its prefecture. It is the second largest city in Shanxi Province with a population of 3 million.

The most majestic spot in the city must be the Yungang Grottoes and The Hanging Monastery , Yungang Grottoes is situated 18 kilometers to the west of the city center, the construction of these grottoes lasted 50 years, and more than 45 thousand people took part in the project. There are more than 50 grottoes with 52000 statues remaining, which is one of the largest grotto-groups in China.

The Hanging Monastery is one of the more remarkable sights in China: a complex of 45 rooms linked by mid-air walkways in China.
