The Forbidden City, the royal palace of China during the Ming and Qing dynasties, is located in the center of Beijing, and is one of the largest and best-preserved groups of ancient wooden structures in the world. The Forbidden City was built in the 18th year of the Ming Dynasty (1420) by order of Zhu Di, the first emperor of the Ming Dynasty, and served as the imperial palace of the Ming and Qing Dynasties, with a total of 24 emperors ruling China for 490 years.
